Welcome to the Old Pilesgrove ME Cemetery.... ..

  Hello, and welcome to the "New Journey Ghost Research" Old Pilesgrove M.E. Cemetery information web page.  This historic Cemetery is located in Salem County. The cemetery, at one time had a church present on the grounds. The church and cemetery were originally founded in the year 1795 and the first burial took place in the year 1799. In the year 1891, the last sermon was delivered to the members of the church, and from that point onward the church sat abandoned. In the year 1905, the church was torn down and the wood was utilized on another house which was being built near by. The last noted burial took place in the year 1911. Since the time of the closing of the cemetery, it has unfortunately sat in a manner of disrepair, and was covered by deep overgrowth. There have been many acts of vandalism at this cemetery over the years, and allot of burial sites were completely destroyed.  This cemetery was originally located by chance by the NJGR organization. Members of NJGR where performing a historical background investigation of another research site, and ran across historical data and mapping disclosing the location of the site. Having this knowledge, we visited the site and found it to be in a severe state of overgrowth and duress. It was then that we knew that something had to be done to correct this cemetery's condition. The New Journey Ghost Research organization has placed this specific historic cemetery on the organizations "Cemetery Support Program", and have restored the cemetery to an acceptable level of sanitation and historic appearance.
