The Civil War
As a scientific based research organization working within the field of the paranormal, we often play a dual role. On many occasions we operate as practicing historians. When investigating the paranormal, we have found that it is not only conducive but favorable to perform a thorough background of an area or person to better understand that place or persons role in a historical timeline. This is one aspect which truly separates the NJGR organization from the rest. We devote countless hours to better educate and understand our world around us. Being that the NJGR organization travels to the Gettysburg area 4 to 5 times each year, it has truly been beneficial for us to deeply research the Civil War and the occurrences which took place in the little town known as Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The process of investigating the historical content has truly brought a robust feeling to the operation of the organization.
Well my friends, what can be said of the great Civil War which our forefathers fought ever so proudly in the defense of their beliefs. I have read many a document during my life which spoke of that time. Each author made a dire attempt to best explain what life was like, how hard the times were and the terrors which occurred during the Civil War. To my knowledge, there was only one individual who truly addressed the issues at hand with such vigor that his words still echo through time itself. This author addressed the pain and suffering which every American endured during the great war. These great words were spoken ever so clearly and with such clarity that all understood their content. This piece is now a mainstay in American Literature and possibly will be for all of time itself for it best describes what makes this country the best country in the entire world. I have inserted this great piece of literature below for your review;

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle field of that war. We come to dedicate a portion of it, as a final resting place for those who died here, that the nation might live. This we may, in all propriety do. But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow, this ground -- The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have hallowed it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here; while it can never forget what they did here. It is rather for us, the living, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth. I do not believe that there exists another piece of American literature which can better reflect the feeling which encompassed the nation at that time. Today, the same words are still as brilliant and concise as they were then.
As the country heads into the new millennium, many within our great country still turn to the beliefs which our forefathers held so dear and attempt to recapture the feeling and lifestyle which encompassed that time. These individuals are not only Civil War Re-enactors, but are some of the most enduring true historians I have ever had the pleasure of working with. If you would care to learn more about Civil War Re-enacting, visit our friends at the 8th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. They are a great bunch of people and deserve all kudos for their endeavors.
