The Buford Inn (cont.)

Welcome to the Buford Inn.... ..

When we came up with some positive data, we started asking questions about the property. We specifically interviewed  the staff who maintain the Inn. The story regarding the Inn is this. Apparently, after the battle was over and the cleanup of the dead began, it is said that allot of the dead were placed in the basement of the old Inn until they could receive a proper burial. The maids who service the rooms of the Inn have witnessed many strange happenings there and are quite reluctant to work in the building. It is only by sheer chance that we were boarded in an active Inn.  During the first day of the battle, July 1st, 1863, the confederate army came right up the Chambersburg Pike towards the town of Gettysburg. The first days engagements between the Union and Confederate army's took place right there on the very grounds of the General Buford Inn.

The structure was originally a quaint, two story, late 19th century home which lies high atop the Seminary Ridge. Many years after the Gettysburg battle, in the 20th century, an addition was constructed onto the original structure. This addition also had it's own second story which contained a loft bedroom and a bathroom area.  The General Buford Inn is quite comfortable and can usually be rented for the weekend at a nominal rate of exchange.  We have been there on several occasions and enjoyed ourselves immensely with each occasion.  As you can see in the photograph above, the residence appears quite grand, and is likewise comfortable.

During our investigation of the General Buford Inn, we were able to capture very few noted still photographs which displayed anomalies. However, a huge amount of "EVP" activity was captured on video and analog recorders. There are a large amount of recorded bangs and knocks in the upper bedrooms of the Inn. Some were very loud and violent. It is the finding of the organization that the Inn possesses a noisy spirit or poltergeist. We noticed several occasions where the poltergeist had moved objects around from room to room unnoticed, opened and closed doors, turned lights off and on, etc. The spirit of the Inn was found to be playful and simply wished to be noticed.
